Sport Fuels Life sparks inspiration and builds community through the shared journey of athletic triumphs and personal growth. This year our Sport Fuels Life podcast will celebrate its third year of content. The start of a new year is the perfect time to reintroduce our hosts and share the why behind this movement for new listeners or even veterans who might need a reminder on the power of sports.
Our Sport Fuels Life podcast hosts and championship pole vaulters are pictured below.
Megan Houston
Megan Houston is a former All-American pole vaulter for the Arkansas Razorbacks National Championship track and field team, where Megan earned her Master of Business Administration. Megan continues to train and compete in the pole vault alongside her husband, Scott Houston, whom she coached at the 2021 Olympic Trials. She is also a coach at a local pole vault club, Vault House in High Point, N.C., where she trains athletes at all levels to develop physical fitness, technical skills, and mental edge in their life pursuits.
Scott Houston
Scott Houston plays the dual role of both an athlete and coach as an elite pole vaulter in his eighth year as the Assistant Track and Field coach at High Point University. Scott is an alumnus of University of North Carolina for his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and University of Indiana for his Master’s in Sport Management. Over the span of 17 years in his pole-vaulting career, Scott has become a 2x Olympic Trials finalist, National Champion, represented Team USA twice on the world stage, and coached an NCAA Runner-Up.Â
Today’s podcast features this husband-and-wife team, what sports mean for Megan and Scott, and why hosting this podcast is so special for them. Here are some highlights:
- Both Megan and Scott understand the joy and frustration in the pursuit of high sports performance. They have put several years into pushing their limits physically, mentally, and emotionally to become the best pole vaulters they can be. They understand the discipline it takes to see progress over time and the passion required to continually grind through difficult workouts when dreams are at stake. They have experienced championship level successes, made appearances on the world stage, and are eager to experience more challenges (and more success).
- Because athletes and coaches may all be at different points in their journeys, anyone who has played a sport or is still participating can appreciate and relate to the experiences of others. That universal sentiment helped inspire this podcast as a place to share, learn, and celebrate athletic journeys in order to inspire and connect others.
- Sports teach life lessons. What is learned on the field can so easily be carried over to other areas in life. There are no bounds to the lessons learned from each sport. The stories of struggles to triumph overlap from all sports and can be appreciated whether you play it, coach it, or watch it.
To sum up, sports are undeniably positive and uniting forces in life. We welcome your suggestions. Good luck in pursuing your dreams!
