Join us at Sport Fuels Life as we talk with Jesse Iwuji about his journey going from a D1 football player to Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy and his newest title of professional NASCAR racer.  Jesse’s story is one of vision and determination.

Jesse is among the top up-and-coming NASCAR drivers and one of only two African Americans on the professional stock car racing circuit. He attributes the discipline he learned in the United States Navy, as well as playing football for the Naval Academy, to his success. Jesse has tremendous passion for serving his country and is currently still active in the Navy Reserves.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree from the Naval Academy, where he played free safety, he went on to help coach at the Naval Academy Preparatory School. Then he entered active service where he worked in mine countermeasures. After transitioning from active military status to reserves, Jesse pursued his dream to become a professional NASCAR driver and has expanded his professional life to include a trucking company and real estate investing.

In addition to his many talents, Jesse’s career is distinguished by his positive outlook. He says, “Anytime you are going on a journey in life that is way bigger than where you are at right now, there are going to be a lot of bumps in the road, there are going to be a lot of walls, there are going to be people in your way and people trying to stop you. At the end of the day, the only way to fail is to quit...that’s it...there is no other way.”
